klementina

19.9.24 drifts gallery (vilnius)

written, performed, composed and choreography by Samuel Barbier-Ficat

Samuel Barbier-Ficat presented a performance that pays homage to Klementina’s Potockytė-Tiškevičienė (1856–1921) artistic circle and the creative freedom she cultivated within the Lithuanian art scene. In this gallery performance Klementina, he performed new compositions that encapsulates the personal and political tensions of the 19th century. In a symbolic nod to the restrictive societal norms of that era, he  dressed in period clothing. Barbier-Ficat interspersed theatrical moments during the piece, invoking themes of temptation and autonomy. The performance culminated in a powerful act of defiance, symbolizing the struggle for artistic and intellectual freedom that Klementina championed. This act, intended as more than a mere rejection of imposed expectations, aims to reaffirm creative sovereignty, echoing the emancipatory spirit that Klementina instilled in the artists she inspired and supported.
